Quick improvement to Lover's Lane in Rhu mark a positive step for local active travel and community access. The ongoing works follow a successful grant from Walking Scotland and reflect months of planning and volunteer effort by the Rhu and Shandon Community Trust in partnership with residents, 27 of whom showed up to help in the first day of volunteering.
The Trust has led volunteer weekends to clear overgrown vegetation and secure funding to repair the well-used path linking Glenarn Road to Torwoodhill Road. Beyond resurfacing, the project includes drainage upgrades to ensure the new surface lasts for years to come — a key priority highlighted by both the Trust and local walkers.
Trust Chair Fiona Baker said the aim is to deliver a lasting improvement that supports everyday journeys and enhances the village’s network of paths. Continued community support — including fundraising events — is helping ensure this valued project can be completed to a high standard.
