Rhu and Shandon Community Trust has confirmed completion of the Ardenconnel Wood purchase, with trustees now turning attention to restoration work — including safety felling of hazardous trees this autumn and tackling invasive rhododendron and laurel, with volunteers welcome. Meanwhile, attention has also turned to neighbouring Duchess Wood in Helensburgh, whose earlier sale fell through and has since been relisted. A newsletter from the Trust revealed a donor has come forward wanting to see Duchess Wood brought into community ownership too, and trustees have now held preliminary talks with landowners Luss Estates about acquiring both the wood and the connecting field between Glenoran and Duchess Wood — which would link it directly to Rhu and Shandon and the wider Gareloch nature network.
