Discover the Plants of Shandon Woodland
Shandon Woodland is rich in plant life, from ancient woodland specialists to familiar hedgerow species and unexpected botanical surprises. In partnership with the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland, a detailed botanical survey of the woodland was carried out in late July 2025. To make the results easy to explore and useful for the community, the survey findings have been turned into a simple, interactive app.
The app is completely free and requires no sign-up or download. Just follow the link and you’ll be taken straight to the app either on your laptop or mobile phone.
Plants are organised into clear categories: trees, shrubs, flowering plants, ferns, rushes, sedges and grasses. Selecting a species opens up further information, including:
-
its history in the UK
-
typical habitat
-
whether it has known edible or medicinal uses
