PROJECT

Ardenconnel Woods

STATUS

Started, but on hold

Overview:

Ardenconnel Wood will be restored to good ecological condition to create a safe, accessible, biodiverse and protected greenspace in the centre of Rhu that will continue to enhance the wellbeing of local residents and wildlife.  As a long established native woodland fragment recorded in Scotland's Register of Ancient Woodland, RSCT will encourage opportunities for people to learn about and connect with nature, as well as take action to tackle nature degradation and biodiversity loss.

Project Mission:

1. Produce and act on regularly updated woodland management plans, including removal of invasive non native species (INNS) and other pollution.

2. Undertake timely ecological surveys to demonstrate biodiversity improvements

3. Address drainage issues and enhance the Wood's potential to store carbon and water.

4. Improve access and pathways.

5. Provide meaningful and rewarding education, training and volunteering opportunities.

6. Seek opportunities to work in partnership with other stakeholders and community woodland groups to support the creation of local nature networks.

7. Undertake a feasibility study to inform income generation and sustainability.
